Saturday, September 27 - set up and staff an information booth at this fun event!

Thrift Map rejuvenation project
The Thrift Map Project is a way to help local residents find places to bring their old items and to help everyone save money - and resources! - by using thrift shops instead of buying new!  November 15 is a national textile recycling day and we are kicking off a project to make it a big deal in the North Country!  Your help is welcome in one of several ways:

Check out the current (not so hot!) map at this page.  Your participation in this project will be as a helper to our assigned staff who are responsible to:
  • Contact thrift stores to participate in the Textile Recycling Day project and
  • To recruit them to advertise on the Map, if you are are dynamic in this way
  • Create a new and (much!) better map for the webpage if you are perhaps more dynamic in this way!
  • Print the Map and Key onto a tri-fold display board
  • Present the Board at many public events!
  • Help write press releases to promote the project
  • Other creative ideas for promoting the re-use and recycling of clothing, appliances and home furnishings - SO MUCH is thrown out every day, this is huge!

Workshop Creation

Be creative!  What do YOU either know a lot about or would like to know more about - pitch your idea to us and let's see if we can make it fly!  Also, can this fit into your coursework as an Intern project or extra credit?  If you would like some help with ideas, check out this page - but don't feel limited to what you see there, try to think outside the box about things people in our area would want to learn about in order to live more simply, healthfully, economically, and in more environmentally friendly ways!

TAKE ACTION: Please copy and fully fill in the Volunteer Sign Up Information below and email it to us at LocalLivingVenture@gmail.com!  Note your idea and give us your pitch for it! Thank You!

ARCHIVAL

Local Living Venture Team
Phone Bank Volunteers * WPBS-TV Fall Pledge Drive, Sept 11, 2014  6-11pm

We'll all go down as a group and storm the phone bank lines to take those pledges that keep Public TV alive!  Set for September 11 from 6 to 11 pm (some people can leave earlier.)  It's a 1-1/2 hour drive, so it's a commitment of time, but it's sure to be fun too!

We need to be able to tell WPBS that "Yes, we have the personnel to fill this time slot" (12+ people needed!)

Please let us know as soon as possible if you can join us - the station will be recruiting their own volunteers to fill positions we can't, so they need to know.

Note that snacks are available and there is plenty of time to read, study, or watch the WPBS programming between calls!

Carpools are encouraged and we will arrange rides for those who need it. We will leave Potsdam at 4 pm (not 3 pm as previously stated!) with a stop in Canton/elsewhere enroute to Watertown.  At the end of the evening, one vehicle can leave a little earlier than the rest (some of us old fogies?!) :-) but they said they need at least 7 people to commit through the entire evening - so those people would get home a little after midnight.

The Local Living Venture feels this is a good opportunity for the organization to give back and to publicize our name and message.  Snacks are provided plus you get to watch the shows when you're not on a call, too!  WPBS schedule page - it's Downton Abbey night!

TAKE ACTION: Please copy and fully fill in the Volunteer Sign Up Information below, noting "Phone Bank" - email it to us at LocalLivingVenture@gmail.com!  Or you can call us at (315) 347-4223 (press the # key if you get the voicemail - it takes you right to leaving a message) or text (plain text, not picture messages please) to (315) 261-1926.
Thanks so much!

Adopt A Highway
Rt. 68 Roadway Sponsorship* Saturday October 4, 2014  2 - 4 pm

The Local Living Venture is responsible to maintain an area of Rt. 68 between Canton and Ogdensburg - from just before Flackville (after the Hardscrabble Road) to the mini storage unit place down the road.
We really need some willing helpers!  Takes 1-1/2 hours or less (the more people, the less time!) plus 15 minutes travel time from Canton and...maybe a fun pizza following our efforts!?
  • join the staff of the Local Living Venture in this thematic event - helping to keep the North Country clean!
  • you get to wear a cool day-glo vest and hard hat!
  • assist in setting up rides for fellow volunteers perhaps?  Recruit other volunteers?
  • help your chosen school-year community to remain litter-free!
